On 30 September 2026, the European Ocean Research and Education Alliance (EOREA) will hold the event “Blue Preparedness: European ocean research and education in the perspective of civil protection” at the European Parliament in Brussels, hosted by MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral.

The event will mark the launch of two EOREA Collaborative Research and Education Programmes (CREPs) dedicated to Aquaculture and Marine Robotics. These programmes are designed to foster collaboration across EOREA partner institutions by connecting expertise and developing joint activities in research, education and innovation.

Following an introduction to EOREA and presentations of the two CREPs, a panel discussion will address a central question: How can stronger European cooperation in ocean research, education and innovation contribute to Europe’s preparedness and societal security?

Bringing together researchers, policymakers and marine stakeholders, the event will provide an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the role of ocean knowledge, research and education in addressing European challenges and strengthening cooperation across the continent.

Speakers include Siri Granum, Richard Sempéré, Lars Gansel, Thorsten Kiefer, Sheila Heymans, Alexandra Neyts, Fraser Sturt, Emilio Fortunato Campana, Massimo Caccia and Sarah Thomas.
