Alliance
Contribute to achieving the ambition of EU and UN priorities, through structured participation in key implementation initiatives (i.e. Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters, Knowledge and Innovation Community on the Ocean, EU Climate Law, Blue Economy Partnership, etc.). Our distinctive approach to research and education is our thematic joint programmes. These programmes serve as platforms for challenge-based research activities, facilitating an exchange and alignment of ongoing initiatives at national levels across the institutions participating in EOREA. This collaborative approach ensures that the collective knowledge, resources, and expertise of our alliance are fully utilised, enhancing the quality and impact of our research.
Education programs
In the context of education, our Collaborative Research and Education Programmes (CREPs) are tailored to align with the knowledge derived from our research activities. This strong link between research and education promotes the delivery of cutting-edge, relevant teaching content, ensuring our students gain the most current and comprehensive education in the field of marine science. Existing training programmes within our alliance institutions are further nurtured by these research findings, benefiting from the latest scientific insights. Our engagement to integrate research findings into our education programmes is at the heart of the mission to prepare the next generation of leaders in water science.

Policy advice
EOREA also serves as an influential arena for policy advice. We leverage our collective knowledge and expertise to provide recommendations to global, European, and national institutions and authorities. This role reflects our engagment to filling the gap between research, education, and policy, ensuring that our research findings inform and shape decision-making processes.
To achieve these ambitions, EOREA Members will rely on the sharing of knowledge through the definition of interdisciplinary and transnational Collaborative Research and Education Programmes (CREPs) of research and education. Through them, EOREA will contribute to tackle the lack of integration and collaboration at the EU level in the field of ocean science and set up or fuel EU-wide education programmes relying on excellent scientific capacities. Moreover, EOREA is dedicated to raising public awareness around ocean-related threats and promoting a sustainable blue economy. We believe that our role in research and education places us in a unique position to contribute to a better understanding of our oceans and a more sustainable future.
